Lligwy Bay

To get there Follow the A55 onto anglesea but as soon as you are over the bridge, bear left to get off the A55, then turn right and go under the bridge. Now follow signs for the A5025, and then follow this all the way up, past red wharf Bay & Benllech. About 10 mins or so past Benllech - get to Brynrefail (easy to see on multimap if you zoom in close) and turn R down a single track road - there's a smalll signpost for the beach, so keep yer eyes open (opposite a building on the left that looks a bit like a pub). Follow the road down and turn R at the T junction - you'll end up in a big car park, with a path leading to the beach. What's there? - an excellent venue in easterly winds! Nothing else though, except the car park and beach - so take some butties and a flask of coffee. The car park is about 5meters from the beach. At low tide I had about 150m walk to the sea. What's the sailing like? Good in winds ranging from N to SE (no westerlies). It's starboard tack in SE or E, onshore in E, and port tack NE. On the day I was there it was Easerly, 5.0 weather and the waves were pretty big and powerful (I got 2 good long swims in after getting rinsed) - boom height or more. It was difficult to get out past 'em and there was quite a current nearer the beach - so not the easiest place to sail.... If yer feeling brave however, it was great wave sailing, with some nice long ones which make for good riding in the right wind direction (SE I think is best). This large sandy beach offers limited sailing time, as the tide goes out quite a long way making it impossible to sail at low tide. The best conditions at Lligwy are N and NE, which create excellent bump and jump sailing in fairly strong winds. It is also possible to sail in E winds but they can be a bit gusty.
